The Gathering part ways with bassist and announce replacement
Posted by: Stéphane @ 17:34 CET

Holland's THE GATHERING have parted ways with bassist Hugo Prinsen Geerligs and have replaced him with Marjolein Kooijman.

"After a period of soul searching, Hugo came to the conclusion he wants to spend his time otherwise, taking on new challenges profession-wise and focus on his private life," the band said in a statement. "He and his wife just had a beautiful baby girl. This means Hugo will end the year with THE GATHERING and [will do] one last show which will be in 013 in Tilburg, Holland the 16th of November. Of course we wish him all good luck and happiness in the future!

"THE GATHERING went on a quest to find a suitable replacement for Hugo and luckily they did not have to search very far. They found a great replacement for Hugo in female bass player Marjolein Kooijman from Oss Holland, the place where most of the band come from and started their GATHERING career. Marjolein, a very nice person and a natural talent indeed, studies at the Dutch 'Rock Academy' at Tilburg. You will get a chance to meet her when THE GATHERING will tour around Europe after the release of [their new EP] 'Sleepy Buildings' end of January 2004." Check out photos of the new lineup: Photo#1, Photo#2.

THE GATHERING's new "semi-acoustic" live album, "Sleepy Buildings", is due on January 26 through Century Media Records. Recorded at two exclusive gigs held at the LUX movie theatre and venue in Nijmegen, Holland on August 21-22, the disc features selections from the group's entire career ? from the classic debut "Always" to the commercial breakthough "Mandylion" to the trip-rock of "If_Then_Else". THE GATHERING will promote the album with a special semi-acoustic tour starting February 2004. More information will be made available soon.

Mantas chooses producer after listening to the new Skyclad album!
Posted by: Matze @ 21:53 CET

MANTAS....Venoms guitarist, has finally foound a producer to put the finishing touches to his new CD "ZERO TOLLERANCE". DARIO MOLLO (Skyclad,Cradle Of Filth, Anathema etc) finally got the job after Mantas heard his work on the new SKYCLAD CD. He states " Although the SKYCLAD music is a million miles from my own sound, I've worked with Kev Ridley (The bands producer and singer) for nearly 20 years now and trust his judgement in the production department. He really rates Dario as having some of the best ideas he's come across, thats why he chose to work with him on the SKYCLAD CD. Anyway, Kev played me some of the new SKYCLAD tunes and I thought they sounded great!! Unbeknown to me, Kev told our record company that he thought Dario would do a cracking job on my album, and suggested we send him a track to see what he could do. Next thing I know I get a call to the office and they play me the mix of our track"Rage". It simply blew me away!! We were taliking to people like Colin Richardson (Slayer/Machine Head) and Dave Ogalvie (Marylin Manson), but when I heard what Dario did he got the job instantly.

Recorded at the Demolition Studios, Newcastle, this CD could possibly be the Black Metal Gods finest moment. Mantas states "All tracks are recorded now, so all I've got to do is find a producer whose got the balls to put the whole thing together". He continues "These are some of the strongest most brutal tracks I've ever recorded, and I can't wait to get the damn thing released so I can tour the arse off it". Joining MANTAS on bass guitar is his Mark III Venom ally TONY DOLAN. "When the chance came to include Tony in the new MANTAS line-up I jumped at it. He's one of the finest musicians I've ever worked with, and on a live stage he's simply fucking crazy!!... Thats what I want this band to be about, its got to be brutal in all aspects. On Stage I want it to be so fucking OTT you'll have to sign a waiver for your health before you're allowed in the Venue!!". Release for the new CD is expected to be February 2004, preceeded by a single and promo video in January.

SKYCLAD.... Are putting the finishing touches to their new CD "A Semblance of Normality". Production was once again handled by KEVIN RIDLEY (also the bands vocalist), with the mixing process taking place at "Damage Inc. Studios" in Italy by Kevin and DARIO MOLLO.

This CD is without doubt the bands biggest project todate, with one of the Worlds finest Orchestra's, namely London's"ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA", blending perfectly with the band on a number of recorded tracks. Conductor with the Orchestra was ROBERT TRORY consisdered by many in classical circles as one of the best in the World.

Steve Ramsey, the bands guitarist, states from the studio in Italy "We all feel that we have finally reached the home straight now of an album that has turned out to be something of an epic undertaking. We thank you all for sticking with us, you'll soon be able to hear the result of all this hard work".

Release is planned for March 2004 with a single and promo video of the track "A Good Day To Bury Bad News" preceeding it in early February.

Yes its here, in stock and may I add ONLY available here or at OREADE stockists. This is NOT a New World product.

One of the very best albums I have yet produced. Some fans are calling it my "Best album ever", which is high praise indeed and most flattering. Certainly this album breaks new ground in many directions, not only musically, but also in terms of artwork and graphics. The CD cover comes in the form of small booklet which describes and illustrates the story behind CHRONICLES.

So what is CHRONICLES? In a nutshell its my own "Middle Earth", my own "Lord of the Rings". Lovers of magic and fantasy are going to love the unfolding story that has been written and dramatised within the music.

After serious thinking the band decided that due to various circumstances they can no longer operate as a collective unit. Therefore, a journey of 13 years came to an end??. Annihilator: new old drummer
Posted by: Matze @ 17:50 CET

Canadian thrash metal veterans ANNIHILATOR have parted ways with drummer Randy Black (PRIMAL FEAR) and have rejoined forces with former skinsman Mike Mangini (EXTREME, STEVE VAI).

"Despite having guaranteed the band that he would be performing on their upcoming new release, and being scheduled to record drum tracks in 5 weeks, last-minute 'requests' made it impossible to continue a positive working relationship [with Randy]," the group explain in an official statement.

Mangini will track the drums for the forthcoming ANNIHILATOR album at a Boston studio beginning in six weeks.

Says ANNIHILATOR leader Jeff Waters: "As most drummers know, Mike is one of the best in the business and it is an honor for me to work with a pro like him. He is going to help set a new standard for ANNIHILATOR and metal drumming. A tall order but one Mangini is eager to and able to achieve."

With respect to the new CD, Waters states, "Although the last five ANNIHILATOR studio CDs have all had some good material on them, I made a promise to myself and the new label that I will deliver something far beyond what I have been doing for the last 10 years. And I will."

The as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2002's "Waking The Fury" will be released in March/April 2004 through Germany's AFM Records.

In Flames recording update
Posted by: Stéphane @ 20:46 CET

Sweden's IN FLAMES have posted the following update to their official web site:

"Hello all, some news regarding the current recording of the follow up to ['Reroute To Remain']. On Saturday the 27th of September we travelled to Denmark with 2 buses filled with studio equipment, and our personal instruments, etc to start what will be next year's IN FLAMES release, featuring Daniel Bergstrand [MESHUGGAH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD] and Örjan Örnklo [ex-MISERY LOVES CO.] as producers.

"Everything looks great here: the equipment is hooked up and working well, five songs are done on rhythm guitar, and on Monday [October 6] we'll start laying down bass guitar, and then move on to vocals.

"We have two studios set up, one for guitar and electronics and one for bass and vocals, so the recording process is very smooth.

"For relaxation we have a fully equipped spa area with a sauna, a jacuzzi, a pool and a tanning bed, so whenever there is time for getting our acts together, we just go there....

"And to make things even better, we have our personal assistant Magnus with us and our chef ? also named Magnus ? so we get excellent food each day and some great assistance...

"Right now we have our magnificent webmaster Fredrik visiting, and some pictures will be uploaded soon to give u a small view on what we're doing, and we'll try to keep you updated more throughout this month, with pictures and info....

"We were also supposed to have some webcam pictures for you, but Fredrik got a little too much under his belt yesterday and couldn't understand the procedure, so maybe next time....

"Have fun and we'll talk soon, Jesper Daniel Anders Björn & Peter"

As previously reported, IN FLAMES' forthcoming CD will surface through Nuclear Blast Records in Europe, with whom the group have two albums remaining under the terms of their present contract. IN FLAMES are currently in negotiations with several labels about a possible North American record deal. More information will be made available soon.

More Skyclad News
Posted by: Matze @ 9:42 CET

Taken from the official Skyclad homepage:

"At last, the news that we know a lot of you have been waiting what seems like an eternity for. After almost twelve months of recording, writing, rewriting and even more recording the time has finally come to put the finishing touches to the new album and get down to some serious mixing and post production. The album is to be mixed at the Damage Inc Studio in Italy with the help of Dario Mollo, with our very own Kevin Ridley overseeing the knob twiddling, work is due to start this week and hopefully we will have some MP3's up on the site very soon for you all to listen to. The studio has been used in the past for production and recording by the likes of Anathema, Cradle of Filth, Tony Martin (Black Sabbath) and Glen Hughes etc, so we are looking forward to this being one of the best sounding albums to date. The album title as we have already mentioned is going to be "A Semblance of Normality" and the aptness of this title is becoming more apparent to us week by week as things just keep getting more bizarre in the Skyclad camp!

In keeping with the bizarre theme is the collaboration of Skyclad and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and yes you did read that right! In true Skyclad fashion we always like to try something a bit different on each album so on several of the new tracks we have fourteen top class musicians from one of the worlds best known orchestras performing the string arrangements of the soon to be legendary classical writing team of Ramsey/Biddle. This strange collaboration was put to tape (or should that be hard disc) this Tuesday (September 30th) in London's Eden Studios, the recording went as we expected and turned out pretty amazing, we feel that this has provided the 'icing' to an already tasty cake! And as proof to you all that it is most definitely not keyboards we have included a picture below of the event.

We all feel that we have finally reached the home straight now of an album that has turned out to be something of an epic undertaking and we thank you all for sticking with us, you'll soon be able to hear the result of all this hard work right here, keep watching for more info soon."
