R.I.P. Penny dreadful general channel (our first radio)
Posted by: Stéphane @ 21:01 CET

For those of you who have not noticed my post on the board, the life of our first radio who was provided through sonic net has just ended.
:-(
This station was great cause people could listen any kind of music from classical music to gothic, metal, folk, experimental, new age, jazz rock, following our tastes.

Sadly Sonic Net have decided to end broadcasting non commercial radios.
So we have to seek a replacement (i doubt much i'll be able to find an as good broadcaster with so much choice).

If anyone knows one, as well as a non java free chatroom system with moderating tools, email me at :

stephane@pennydreadful.de

Hopefully, you can still listen to our 'music having a soul' radio, which is more centered on folk and metal. (=>radio section).

    Correction to Dreaditorial
Posted by: Pax @ 7:52 CET

There is a slight correction to the recent Dreaditorial "Boycott Ozzy Osbourne!" regarding recent actions by Vince Brotheridge and Martin Walkier. Our apologies to both Vince and Martin for the misinformation. Details are on the message board at the end of the Dreaditorial, "Boycott Ozzy Osbourne!"

edit Stephane : Well at last we have a reader :D)!
    Penny vidi non vincit?
For some reasons i'm not at all convinced (yeah, bad triple pun inside) by former clad webmaster's arguments. I can forgive but never forget.
I let people forge their own opinion about that (if it's still worthy any discussion)- I dubious. Let's focus on the present.

    Henjo Richter to join Helloween???

According to Germany's Hammer Magazine, Gamma Ray guitarist Henjo Richter has offered to fill the vacancy in Helloween if they can't find a replacement in time for the next album. There is also rumoured that he might join Helloween, although that is just a rumour at the moment. Whatever the case, Richter makes it clear that he has NO INTENTION TO LEAVE Gamma Ray, and that Kai & Co. don't have any problems with him helping Helloween out.

    Nightwish : some changes...
Posted by: Stéphane @ 20:51 CET

"At point all comes to an end, nothing is eternal. Also Nightwish
has gone through some changes that are necessary for the band`s
existence and future. Our bass player since the album "Oceanborn",
Sami, is no longer a member of the band. We wish him all the very
best for the future! He will be replaced, at least for the next
album & tour by Mr. Marco Hietala (known also from Tarot & Sinergy)

The legendary spinedude Mr. Ewo Rytkönen will be Nightwish`s manager.
Together with Mr. Toni Peiju they will also take care of band`s tour
booking, both in Finland and abroad. Our previous booking agency,
Piikkikasvi always did excellent job and we have nothing except the
best to say about them. A million thanks to them for everything!

At the moment we`re arranging and rehearsing the songs for the
next full-length album. We will enter the studio the 10th of
January. The record will hopefully be released during May 2002.
    Rock on!"

    Blaze News
Posted by: Matze @ 16:37 CET

The 'Planet Blaze' crew sent in the following:

"B L A Z E have been busy in the studio recently completing the follow up to the brilliant debut CD "Silicon Messiah". The new album is entitled "Tenth Dimension" and will be released early next year. However, the band are going to be busy throughout the remainder of this year after confirming the following dates. They will be supporting Saxon in Tilburg (Oct. 18th), Antwerp (Oct. 19th) and headlining a one off show at Bedford Esquires on Saturday 20th October. They will then be heading for Portugal for a one off headline show in Porto (Nov 11th) and will join In Flames amongst others at the Motala Metal festival in Sweden on Saturday 17th November. The band have also confirmed that a 'special' one off show will take place at Dudley JB's on Friday 16th November. This will be the bands last appearance in the UK before setting off to South America in November/December and B L A Z E have decided they would like to say a massive thank you to their homeland fans.
We joined up with frontman Blaze Bayley recently and this is what he had to say about what was being planned for the show in Dudley. "We have had a great time since 'Messiah' came out last year. We received great responses from fans throughout Europe when touring with Helloween but cannot thank our fans in the UK enough for the support they have shown us during the last 12 months. This will be a special show for our fans and we have decided to ask the fans to choose what they want us to play in the live set for our show at Dudley on 16th November. If you would like anything signing please ensure to bring it with you as the band will be holding a signing session for an hour after doors open. Arrangements have been made to hold your signed things in a secure place leaving you to enjoy the rest of the night. We will also be launching our members club on the night."

In addition, as the Dudley show will coincide with BBC's Children in Need, B L A Z E will be organising a raffle to win band related goodies. All the proceeds from which will go to Children in Need.

For advance tickets priced £8 please go to www.jbsdudley.co.uk or call the venue on 01384 253597. Fans can choose their setlist at www.blazefans.com or visit the Official website for further details at www.planetblaze.com"

ANTHRAX (the band) Vs. ANTHRAX (the disease)
Posted by: Matze @ 10:11 CET

Anthrax have issued the following press release:

    "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

In light of current events, we are changing the name of the band to something more friendly, "Basket Full Of Puppies". Actually, just the fact that we are making jokes about our name sucks.

In the twenty years we've been known as "Anthrax", we never thought the day would come that our name would actually mean what it really means. When I learned about anthrax in my senior year biology class, I thought the name sounded "metal". Everyone in my neighborhood had a band with an "er" name, like "Ripper" or "Deceiver" or "Killers" and I wanted to be different. "Anthrax" sounded cool, aggressive, and nobody knew what it was. Until a few years ago most people thought we'd made it up. Even our album, "Spreading The Disease" was just a play on the name. We were spreading our music to the masses.

Before the tragedy of September 11th the only thing scary about Anthrax was our bad hair in the 80's and the "Fistful Of Metal" album cover. Most people associated the name Anthrax with the band, not the germ. Now in the wake of those events, our name symbolizes fear, paranoia and death. Suddenly our name is not so cool. To be associated with these things we are against is a strange and stressful situation. To us, and to millions people, it is just a name. We don't want to change the name of the band, not because it would be a pain in the ass, but because we hope that no further negative events will happen and it won't be necessary. We hope and pray that this problem goes away quietly and we all grow old and fat together.

    Be safe,
    Scott, Charlie, Frank and John
    AKA Anthrax

PS - If an Anthrax member gets Anthrax, call Alanis Morrisette. That would be ironic. Don't you think?
PPS - Article featuring Scott at the Washington Post
PPPS - We'll be posting links on how you can help Florida victims and protect yourself from the disease in the coming days."

    Amazing news from The Gathering
Posted by: Stéphane @ 20:34 CET

"Well, We are starting up our own record label, Psychonaut Rec., which will be an important label for the band in the upcoming future, when we have closed the book that is called Century Media.
We take the time to write new songs. Sometimes we have a hard disk full of inspiration, and sometimes it goes extremly slow. That's why we take the time right now.
We are happy to say we will play 5 or 6 new songs the upcoming short Dutch club tour, starting in about two weeks. We all think we have a nice set right now, sometimes quite suprising. Of course we hope all Dutch Gathering followers will visit some of the upcoming gigs. It's always an exciting moment to play new tracks in front of an audience. We hope you share the same feeling.

It's difficult to say something about the new ones... Until now, the material is very dark and gloomy. Sometimes moody, atmospherical, but way more groovier. Sometimes quite heavy again, but of course it will be something new and improving from the previous records. We try to take the best elements from the past, and combine this with the present, without forgetting the future.

No deadlines are set, as we don't have any release date yet. We would be very dissapointed if we won't release a CD in 2002, so we are aiming around the end of the summer/autumn 2002. Things can change though...

As I said earlier; we take the time, to write memorable songs. Songs which will stand the test of time. That's why we will not play till spring/summer 2002."
