Finland's NIGHTWISH have begun the final preparations for the recording of their new album, tentatively due in June 2004 through Spinefarm Records. "[The] band will lock themselves at the studio where they'll spend about a month practicing and arranging the songs for the new album," according to post on the group's web site. The band will once again use their own studio (Caverock) in Kitee to record the drums, bass and keyboards/synths, while the vocals and guitars will be recorded at Helsinki's Finnvox facility. 13 new songs and one cover version will be recorded during the sessions, which are expected to be completed by the end of March.

FINNTROLL will enter Sundicoop Studio in Savonlinna, Finland in November to begin recording their new album, tentatively due in the spring.
"At this point we have 30 minutes of material," said keyboardist Trollhorn. The music is the best we've ever made, as usual. Combining the melodies of 'Jaktens Tid', the rawness and sheer maliciousness from 'Midnattens' and the epicness of 'Visor om Slutet', it should be a killer. Lyrics will be in Swedish, as usual, and no English will be used. Joik? We don't know yet. Acoustics? Some. Banjo? Yes.
"This time we want a bit more 'meaner' sound, so expect some downtuned guitars and say goodbye [to the] power metal production."
A two-and-a-half-minute demo "preview" of the new material has been posted online in MP3 format at this location.
"There are many melodies included in that 'mix' as I wanted it to be something people will remember when they wait for the album," Trollhorn said of the clip. "But I also included some grim parts there, too, as we're definitely going more evil on the next album. Wait and hear!!!"
Regarding the "singing" parts included in the demo preview, Trollhorn said, "[current FINNTROLL frontman Tapio Wilska] does not 'sing' in those couple of seconds, it is yours truly, who is definitely NOT going to do anything like that to the next album. Basically I have only screeched into the tracks if I have had the lyrics ready to get and give the complete picture.
"And for those who wanted 'more vocals': Many of the parts you hear [in this clip] are supposed to include vocals, but these demos do not include vocals except for the two tracks there are included."
FINNTROLL guitarist Teemu "Somnium" Raimoranta died in March from injuries sustained in an accidental fall he took while intoxicated. The group's last release ? an "acoustic/experimental" CD titled "Visor Om Slutet" ? was their first to feature Wilska.
A Snippet-Mix-MP3 (ca. 5 min, 128 kbps, 44 kHz, stereo, 4,5 MB) from the new Fiddler's Green album NU FOLK is available at the band's official homepage.
According to www.keep-it-true.de, NWOBHM legend SATAN in original 'Court In the Act' Line up feat. BLITZKRIEG vocalist Brian Ross and SKYCLAD'S Steve Ramsey and Graeme "Bean" English, have been confirmed for Germany's "Keep It True" festival.

Holland's THE GATHERING will perform at the fifth anniversary of the 013 club in Tilburg, the Netherlands on November 16. Tickets for the show, which will most likely turn out to be the group's only Dutch gig for the remainder of the year, will cost five euros. For more information, visit www.013web.nl.
THE GATHERING will spend the next couple of months preparing for the release of their semi-acoustic live album, "Sleepy Buildings", tentatively due in January. A tour in support of the EP, which reportedly "turned out very special," will kick off early next year.
I must say, I'm surprised nobody reviewed this album yet! But I'm about to justify the situation. Go read the review. Or go and buy it, and write your own!

Hello Penny Dreadful Crew
"Dein Schatten" is a new dark metal rock project, similarly maybe like Rammstein, VNV Nation, Funkervogt, Falco, Tom Waits, powered by the guitarist, singer-songwriter (sing on German language) multi-instrumentalist Dieter Bornschlegel. He is a pioneer of the German progressiverock history (Guru Guru, Atlantis). He is just publishing his album "Das Ewige Eis", a mixture of melancholy and mania that asks you to dance.
The Band`s first single "Woanders sein" was mixed by D-Kay, Timo Donati, Air Liquide, Bliss for the dance floor, and many DJs around the world allready the songs now in theire alternative clubs. The last month Nr.1 on the Top Ten at France Canada, Belgium, German independent radios.
As new act it`s a verry important for us do you have interest to make a review or interview.

SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo has finished laying down his tracks for the fourth GRIP INC. album, according to a post on his official web site. The follow-up to 1999's "Solidify" is being recorded at Woodhouse Studio in Hagen, Germany and is tentatively due in early 2004 through SPV/Steamhammer Records in Europe, JVC Records in Japan and an as-yet-undetermined label in North America
LAKE OF TEARS guitarist/vocalist Daniel Brennare, bassist Mikael Larsson and drummer Johan Oudhuis have officially reformed the band after jamming together at several "test" rehearsals which were "very fun ...really rusty, but really fun and special," according to Daniel. The band are currently negotiating with a well-known label about a possible contract. More information will be made available soon.
LAKE OF TEARS' fifth full-length album, "The Neonai", was released a year ago through Black Mark. It was recorded with producer Ulf Wahlberg at Stockholm's XTC studios, and featured return guest appearances by former TIAMAT/DISMEMBER guitarist Magnus Sahlgren (who appeared on 1999's "Forever Autumn") and vocalist Jennie Tebler (who guested on "Lady Rosenred" off 1997's "A Crimson Cosmos").
ANATHEMA have set "A Natural Disaster" as the title for their seventh studio album, tentatively due in November through Music For Nations Records. The follow-up to 2001's "A Fine Day to Exit" was recorded and mixed at Parkgate Studios near Hastings, U.K. (except for two songs, which were mixed in Nottingham at Electric Mayhem) and was produced by the and engineered by Dan Turner, with cover artwork from Travis Smith.
The complete track listing for "A Natural Disaster" is as follows:
04. Are You There?
05. Childhood Dream
06. Pulled Under
07. A Natural Disaster
Two of these will be instrumentals, and the CD will have a total running time of roughly 55 minutes.
ANATHEMA guitarist Daniel "Danny" Cavanagh had previously stated this about the musical direction of the new album: "The [new] songs lend themselves to [a] simplified approach, being uncomplicated songs that get to the heart of the matter without having to go round the block to get there, if you see what I mean.
"It's fair to say you can expect a variety of songs and soundscapes on this one, from peaceful and ambient tones, to sonically massive great noises that we are barely able to control."
The new album of our old friends Axxis (check out the "Interviews" section) is ready for release. After the mix in the "House Of Audio" studios in Karlsdorf (Germany) Axxis are totally happy with the result.
Bernhard Weiss:"It was a great pleasure to work with Dennis Ward together. He has created exactly the sound that we wanted and I'm sure, that our fans will like this CD very much!"
The album, entitled "TIME MACHINE" is due for release in January 2004.
