Another cd review by Blue Horse.
Nick Cave review
The The Cure have signed with ArtistDirect Records for their next album.
Concerning the "Trilogy" DVD featuring whole shows in Berlin with encores and backstages, they have chosen Eagle Rock Productions.
OK, it's not a new album, but I wanted to write about it for soooo long... Unfortunately, when I finally did it, I have a feeling that I forgot so many important things... Check it out.

The french/austrian dark project is back. The band is supposed to enter studio soon after 5 years of silence.
The new cd will be released on Prophecy Productions.
My lady Erin just sent me this. There's a petition going to get Stan Rogers posthumously inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Stan Rogers was a dynamic force in the Folk scene, before he was tragically killed in a plane crash just as he was breaking into the mainstream. You've all (hopefully) read my reviews on him and my editorial on dying young. So go honor one of the great musicians who put his heart and soul into his music. Isn't that what Penny Dreadful is all about?

KING DIAMOND have finished writing 12 songs for their next studio album, "The Puppet Master", tentatively due in October through Metal Blade Records. According to the band's official web site, "King wrote nine songs this time and finished writing the music for those songs about two weeks ago. [KING DIAMOND guitarist] Andy [LaRocque] contributed three songs. So most likely there will be 12 songs on the album. However there is a slight possibility a short instrumental song might make it on the album. That is not confirmed at the moment.
"This time there will be no typical intro but an intro song which will be around two minutes [long] and is entitled 'The Sailor' which ends with the words 'Let The Show Begin' before kicking in with the [title track].
"The new songs sound very aggressive but still have a lot of theatrical elements in it," King said. "Expect a lot of double kicks in the songs I wrote."
Also included on the album will be "a very sad, sad song (probably entitled 'So Sad'), which has very intense guitar playing on it," according to the web site. "King also said drummer Matt Thompson contributed a guitar riff on one of the songs. [In addition], on one of the songs, 'The Little Drummer Boy' theme is used. Further news is that Andy will arrive on February 27th in Dallas where he and King will start recording the songs. [KING DIAMOND bassist] Hal [Patino] will arrive about three weeks later."
TYPE O NEGATIVE have finalized most of the song titles for their upcoming CD, "The Dream Is Dead", due in April through Roadrunner Records.
Among the tracks set to appear on the forthcoming album are the following:
01. A Dish Better Served Cold (formerly "Truth Decay")
04. I Like Girls
05. Valentine's Day
06. I Don't Want to Be Me
08. Angry Inch ("Hedwig And The Angry Inch" cover)
09. Above All Things
10. Life is Killing Me
In addition, two demo songs — "I Need Love" and "Why Won't You Love Me" — will be included, but are yet to be given "official" titles. A 13th, as-yet-untitled cut will also be added to the final sequence.
As was the case with the group's previous efforts, "The Dream Is Dead" was recorded at Brooklyn, New York's Systems 2 studios and was produced by keyboardist Josh Silver.
Oldie but goodie as they say. Here's the review of Switchblade Symphony's "serpentine gallery". Enjoy!

13. Dead Skin Mask
14. Seasons in the Abyss
15. Captor of Sin
16. Mandatory Suicide
17. Chemical Warfare
18. South of Heaven
19. Angel of Death
Recorded at San Francisco's The Warfield on Dec. 7, 2001 during the band's "God Hates The World" tour, "War At The Warfield" marks one of the last live appearances with the group of drummer Paul Bostaph, who announced his departure from the band shortly before Christmas 2001 due to a "chronic elbow injury." Bostaph has since joined San Francisco Bay Area metallers SYSTEMATIC, who recently completed work on their sophomore album, titled "Pleasure To Burn", for an April 15 release through Elektra Records.
"War At The Warfield" is slated for release on Feb. 11.
Asking in an email about a re-release of the 'Mercury' EP by The changelings, i got that kind answer by the band :
"we are planning a re-release with Middle Pillar. Have you gone to their website? They would have anything of ours, but that might have sold out. They are going to be repressing everything of ours that is currently unavailable (within the next four months I believe)."
Here you go! My very first LIVE review!!! :) We don't get too many good musicians in this God-forsaken corner of the world, but when we do...
Well, just read the review!

Germany's FLOWING TEARS have parted ways with singer Stefanie Duchene. According to the group, "Stefanie wants to focus on private things in the future and coudn't combine that with the band's touring and recording plans any longer — so both sides decided that it would be the best for all to go separate ways.
"The decision to part ways with Stefanie was a hard one for all of us, and the reason why we did it was to enable the band to go on. We have already written half the new album, and we are convinced that the new stuff is by far the best we've ever written. Currently we are looking for a new singer, and as soon as we've found a new vocalist who both musically and personally fits into FLOWING TEARS we'll continue our way at 120%!!!!! We'll definitely record the new album within this year and we'll back on stage with our new singer as soon as possible."
Singers interested in auditioning for the group should send an e-mail with info to: email@example.com.
Finland's AMORPHIS are scheduled to commence the mixing process for their as-yet-untitled new album on Feb. 4 at Finnvox studios with producer Hiili Hiilesmaa (H.I.M., MOONSPELL, SENTENCED). A late spring release through an as-yet-undetermined label is expected.
The sextet, who are currently unsigned following a lengthy stint with Relapse Records, tracked 15 songs during the sessions, with 10 tentatively scheduled to appear on the follow-up to 2000's "Am Universum". AMORPHIS frontman Pasi Koskinen tracked all vocals for the album at Seawolf studio in Suomenlinna, just outside Helsinki. The vocal parts were produced by Seawolf owner Hannu Leiden (ex-singer of HAVANA BLACKS), who has previously worked with HANOI ROCKS, among others. Says guitarist Esa Holopainen: "I think our new material is a mixture of both new and old elements."
ARCH ENEMY are scheduled to enter the studio in early February to begin recording the follow-up to 2001's "Wages Of Sin".
"[Producer] Andy Sneap is coming over to Sweden on the 4th of February for the pre-production," guitarist Michael Amott wrote on the band's official web site. "This process involves a final analysis of the material and various preparations for the recording session – basically eliminating any weak points! We are rehearsing like mad now...getting ready for Andy's arrival (we are getting very self critical at this point, ha-ha!). We're also doing a week of dates here in Sweden and Norway before he arrives! On the 10th of February we fly to the UK and start recording drums…then it's guitars, bass and vocals + extra shit. We'll be spending 1 month in Andy's Backstage studio facilities.
"We are confident that Andy Sneap is the man to capture the whole vibe we've got going on right now...it's fresh and insanely heavy - it feels so good being in this band right now!
"What can I tell you about the new songs? Lots of HEAVY riffs and COOL parts, the melodies and hooks are the strongest we've come up with so far in our career I believe. Lyrically it's heavier too…raw and real. And yes, there's some ultra-sick guitar shit going on too... otherwise it wouldn't be ARCH ENEMY, right? For us, It's a matter of picking up were we left off with 'Wages Of Sin' and just pushing ourselves to be 100% better!!! (Not that easy, we raised the bar pretty damn high on the 'W.O.S.' album!)."
PARADISE LOST will be releasing a new single in the U.K. to coincide with the group's British tour dates.
The single will be the "Special Edition" EP version containing the following tracks:
02. Two Worlds
03. Self Obsessed (live)
04. "Erased" video (director's cut)
05. Making of "Erased" video
The official release date is yet to be confirmed.
Ireland's CRUACHAN have announced the addition to the group's lineup of a new full-time band member, Ed Gilbert. "Ed, who has been playing with us for over a year now as our guest, has now become a full-time member of the band," the group said in an official statement. "A lot of you have probably seen Ed play live with us in the past and will be familiar with him. He is a great musician and a great personality. Ed will be playing keyboard, tin whistle, banjo, acoustic guitar and bosco jays."
As previously reported, CRUACHAN have booked Sonic studios in Dublin from March 29 to May 11 to record their next album, tentatively due in the fall through Hammerheart Records. The band's last album, "Folk-Lore", was released in 2002.
Friday, January 24, 2003

Busy schedule for both projects....
Septic Flesh will release "Sumerian Daemons" on the 27th January through Hammerheart records.
The side project Chaostar is actually in studio for a late january release through holy records.
"Damnation and a Day" due to a 10/03 release through Sony Music will contain those tracks :
01. A Bruise Upon The Silent Moon, 02. The Promise Of Fever, 03. Hurt And Virtue, 04. An Enemy Led The Tempest, 05. Damned In Any Language ( A Plague On Words), 06. Better To Reign In Hell, 07. Serpent Tongue, 08. Carrion, 09. The Mordant Liquor Of Tears, 10. Presents From The Poison-Hearted, 11. Doberman Pharaoh, 12. Babalon A.D. (So Glad For The Madness), 13. A Scarlet Witch Lit The Season, 14. Mannequin, 15. Thank God For The Suffering, 16. The Smoke Of Her Burning, 17. End Of Daze.
It seems to be a big project, COF has been helped by 40 musicians and 32 chorists from budapest's orchester.

NEW FALCONER VOCALIST
Falconer and vocalist Mathias Blad has parted.
The reason was clashes of schedules, Falconer wanted to give the "liveactivity" a serious try and take all chances they could get.
The schedule Mathias´ musicals have didn´t make that easy to go through with.
So the choice was to continue with him and thereby maybe not being able to tour after the next album. The second choice was to get a new singer losing a trademark of the band but being able to take the chances when they come.
Cease the day, as they say.
There are no hard feelings between us, we just had different priorities.
Mathias wanted to do what he had worked and strived for, for years.
The rest of Falconer wanted to take the oppurtunity to experiance something new and different.
Mathias is not 100% out of the picture but are planned to appear as backing vocalist on future recordings.
The new vocalist is called Kristoffer Göbel, also in the band DESTINY.
He is not a Mathias wannabe but have his own style, which also gives the band a chance to evolve.
THE TRIO BECOMES A QUARTET
Also new in the band are the former sessionmusicians:
Anders Johansson (guitar) and Peder Johansson (Bass).
They have played with the band for a year now so why not take them in as real members.
The new album is to be recorded in May at Los Angered studio once again.
This time it will be a consept album but fear not dear fans, it will not be one of those weird hardlistened conseptalbums. The music is mostly as it has been but with one lyrical story throughout the whole album.
After the release of the new album Falconer will finally do a proper tour in Europe at least.
Hopefully more places.
We understand that some of you think that the originality of Falconer is gone now with Mathias out of the picture. We see it as a fresh wind with Kristoffer.
They are both great singers, but different.
Falconer thank Mathias for the time in the band and wishes him the best of luck in the future with his career.

Sweden's IN FLAMES are set to travel to Denmark at the end of May to begin the pre-production process for their next studio album, tentatively due in early 2004. "As we did for 'Reroute To Remain', we will turn off our phones, put our personal lives on hold and disconnect our entire contact with the outside world so that we can focus 100% on making a great new album," the band said in a posting on their official web site. "Once again, it will be the five of us, our equipment and the cheapest possible beer we can find — tons of it!!!
"We will of course do some festivals this summer, but once again — you'll have to wait for the final info as of where we'll play.
"Some of you had some thoughts on what we can change with our music, and that's always appreciated, but as always, we will choose no other path than the one chosen by the 5 members of IN FLAMES!"

Sweden's DIMENSION ZERO — featuring IN FLAMES guitarist Jesper Strömblad (on bass), ex-IN FLAMES axeman Glenn Ljungström, ex-MARDUK vocalist Jocke Göthberg, LUCIFERION/DIABOLIQUE drummer Hasse Nilsson, and PATHOS guitarist Daniel Antonsson — have set "This IS Hell" as the title for their sophomore full-length effort, tentatively due in September/October through Regain Records.
The CD — the band's first to feature Antonsson — will be recorded beginning on Feb. 10 at Phlat Planet studios in Gothenburg, Sweden with producer/IN FLAMES frontman Anders Fridén.
As previously reported, DIMENSION ZERO have been confirmed to appear at this year's 2000 Decibel festival in Bengtsfors, Sweden on May 17 and at Party.San Open Air festival in Bad Berka, Germany on Aug. 7-9.

Veteran San Francisco Bay Area thrashers EXODUS have parted ways with frontman Steve "Zetro" Souza.
The group, who were most recently in the process of completing the songwriting sessions for their first studio album since 1992's "Force Of Habit", are said to have split with Souza over the singer's lack of commitment to the band and his unwillingness to tour for more than a couple of weeks at a time. A replacement vocalist is currently being sought with a view towards recording a new album this spring for a late summer/early fall release.
Souza originally joined EXODUS in 1986 as a replacement for Paul Baloff, who was dismissed from the group following the release of their classic "Bonded By Blood" LP. The former LEGACY (pre-TESTAMENT) singer made his recording debut with the band on 1987's "Pleasures Of The Flesh" and remained in the group until they broke up in the early '90s. A lengthy self-imposed hiatus from the metal scene ended early last year when Souza agreed to return to the reformed band following the sudden passing of Baloff due to a stroke.
Martin Walkyier has done some guest vocals on the debut album of Yorkshire's Bloodstream. The song, Blood and Sand, is available from Bloodstream's MP3.com site.
For the past year or so, a lawsuit has been brought against many North American Retailers and Music labels, on grounds that they have formed a trust in order to raise CD prices. That suit is nearing completion, and if you've been screwed while buying music in the past 5 years, nows your chance for reparation.

The band is supposed to release a live cd in march 03.
Finland's NIGHTWISH are set to enter the studio in November/December to record the follow-up to last year's "Century Child" CD, due before the summer 2004. The band have also confirmed that they will play just one Finnish festival this summer. Appearances at other summer festivals across Europe are also possible.
NIGHTWISH, whose "Century Child" CD was certified platinum in Finland, performed two shows in Germany last week with astounding success. Over 7,000 people turned up at the band's gig in Oberhausen and over 5,500 in Munich. "[The Munich gig] was maybe our best show ever," NIGHTWISH keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen stated right after the concert. A photo taken at the Munich gig can be viewed at this location.
NIGHTWISH's next release will be an as-yet-untitled DVD, due on May 26 through Spinefarm. The group's second DVD collection, it will consist of 12-14 tracks of music, including promo videos and various self-recorded live tracks, and about 60 minutes of behind-the-scenes material.
HELLOWEEN have set a May 5 European release date through Nuclear Blast Records for their as-yet-untitled new album, which is currently being mixed by producer Charlie Bauernfeind at Mi Sueno studio in Tenerife, Spain. A North American release date has yet to be announced.

Finland's ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW have officially disbanded, according to a statement posted on the group's official web site.
The statement reads as follows:
"With mixed feelings we have to announce that ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW have decided to split up. ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW have been on a break since March 2002. During the break, it has become obvious that it is time to quit.
"This band started as a free-time activity about ten years ago. As we got more success, we also needed to give more and more of our time to the band. Day by day, we realized the band had become a full-time job for us. Now it's time to move on and do something different. This band achieved much more than we could imagine when we formed up this band.
"However, we don't stop making and playing music. Check out the official ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW web site regularly for information about the members and their other projects and bands. The site has been online for almost seven years now and will remain as it is. Only the address has changed: www.etos.tk.
"We thank all our fans for support! A huge number of nice things happened to us between 1994 and today, thanks to you!
"On behalf of ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW in early January 2003, Jarmo Puolakanaho & Altti Veteläinen (the founding members)."
Veteläinen and drummer Petri Sankala have spent much of the last year writing and recording with FOR MY PAIN, a new Finnish "goth metal" supergroup also featuring Tuomas Holopainen (NIGHTWISH) on keyboards, Lauri Tuohimaa (EMBRAZE) on guitar, Olli-Pekka Törrö (ex-ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW) on guitar, and Juha Kylmänen (REFLECTION) on vocals. The group's as-yet-untitled debut album is currently being mixed at Finnvox studios by Mikko Karmila for a Mar. 31 release through Spinefarm Records.
30 new songs are already finished, 15 of them will be on the new album scheduled for a march release. Of course a german tour and maybe an austrian one are to be expected 17-26 april.
Italian Goth Metallers Lacuna Coil have been forced to drop off the 4 Absent Friends tour with Opeth, Paradise Lost, and Tapping the Vein, due to problems with Immigration paperwork. Apparently, due to the "heightened security" following the attack on September 11th, the US Government feels it needs to keep all 'potential terrorists' like Lacuna Coil, Marduk, and seditious non American bands from touring the states. Bastards!
Lacuna Coil is actively seeking a new tour for early Spring 2003. Promoters can contact the band at www.lacunacoil.it

Actually the band is in studio to prepare the release of the 'des paroles blanches' Ep in limited edition as well as a single.
Simultaneously, the band is working on their next 9 songs album which is meant to be 'very eclectic and ravishing'.
IRON MAIDEN will commence the recording process for their new studio album later this month, producer Kevin Shirley has confirmed via his official web site.
"Indeed, we begin recording the new IRON MAIDEN album this month, and while I appreciate [everyone's] e-mails, please rely on the official IRON MAIDEN site for updates and news — I can't and won't be answering those e-mails and questions," Shirley wrote. "Also, do NOT send me artwork, song titles, lyrics or production tips (I love [longtime IRON MAIDEN producer] Martin Birch too, and he was an idol of mine growing up!!!), running orders, messages of hate or love to pass on, etc., etc. I will not pass them on, and I hope you understand that. Perhaps I'll do something on the site after the fact, on the making of the album .... and maybe that'd satisfy you."
IRON MAIDEN's as-yet-untitled new effort is not expected to surface until the summer, at the earliest. In the meantime, the group have announced a host of European dates beginning in late June, including several festival appearances alongside METALLICA.
Just posted an interview with Seraphim Shock from Denver, done at last October's Bizarre Vampire Bazaar.

German melodic gothic metal band CREMATORY, who split up in spring 2001 after a successful, decade-long career, are apparently contemplating a comeback. The following is a message from the group posted on the Nuclear Blast Records web site:
"Somehow, somewhere and sometime we will probably come back! That's what it said on our Homepage in the last news snippet in the spring of 2002. And we are, though not completely, but at least with a little proof of life for our fans, BACK!!!
After immense begging we recorded a cover of METALLICA's cult song 'One' explicitly for the METALLICA tribute album 'A Tribute to the Four Horsemen' (December 2002 release). This has been such great fun that after the recording session was over, we talked about an eventual comeback of CREMATORY. We have now begun writing new songs, and after we see how they turn out, we will decide if the comeback will really happen."

MY DYING BRIDE have set August 2003 as the tentative release date for their upcoming studio album, which they plan to begin recording in February.
"We have about 50 minutes worth of music now and are heading into full rehearsals in January to start sounding them out," stated guitarist Andrew Craighan.
Among the titles set to appear on the as-yet-untitled CD are "The Dance of Lord Morte" and "Rehearsals for Doomsday".
